Rescued from Darkness

November 26, 2021 by Krista Hull

Life is FULL of struggle, heartache, and loss.  Some even seem to suffer more than most. Like those abused as children and then being lost in drug addiction, human trafficking, and the like.

No matter how deep the struggle seems- there is always hope.

Though we often cannot feel it, let alone see it while in the mess. Right?

Colossians 1:13 says

“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves… in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

How are we rescued??  I look at the skyrocketing stats on abuse, suicide, anxiety & depression, human trafficking, and I feel hopeless.   I feel overwhelmed by the pain and suffering of so many.

I believe the verse means we are rescued from being swallowed up and lost into the darkness. Obviously, we do not escape it fully in the here and now.  If we do make God Lord over our life and put our hope in Jesus, we will be completely rescued when we get to leave this world for heaven.

THIS is the hope we can choose to hold on to.  And then we will never be completely swallowed up by the struggles or the darkness. Deuteronomy 31:6 also tells us: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  We are NOT alone even when we seem surrounded by darkness.

Unfortunately, human trafficking, murder, abuse, pornography, drug addiction, gender dysphoria and every other form of darkness invading our world will continue until God brings an end to this world showing his final justice, and then restoration for all those who believed in Him.

At Redeem & Restore Center, we fight the darkness of human trafficking, engage people to open their eyes and hearts to those who are suffering and being swallowed up by darkness, and strive to consistently love and support women who are recovering from the life of exploitation.

We each can do what we are able to show love to the hurting and speak up for those who have no voice. My question then remains for those who do hold this hope in never being alone through the darkness…..

What are you doing to help others being swallowed up by the darkness?
