Ignite Hope

Keynote Speaker: Tajuan McCarty

This will be our first annual fundraiser to open and operate Redeem and Restore Center.  Would you consider sponsoring this event, partnering with us in monthly support, or joining a volunteer committee?  We NEED you to do what you love and what you are able for THEM (the exploited, traumatized victims).

Tajuan McCarty is the Founder of The WellHouse, a nonprofit, faith-based and Christ-centered agency dedicated to rescuing women from sexual exploitation/human trafficking. She has experience in social work, community outreach, and as a consultant on women’s issues. Her professional experience includes leadership positions in which she has assisted women ex-offenders re-enter society; helped implement Alabama’s first program devoted to helping chronically homeless, severely mentally ill women and as a social worker for the Alabama Department of Human Resources. She holds Master degrees in Public Health and Public Administration, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Tajuan is uniquely qualified to be a forerunner in the fight against trafficking, as she understands victims situations too well. At 15, she was sexually exploited by her “boyfriend-turned-pimp”. She was trafficked to Birmingham so many times, it became her home. Her many experiences make her a passionate advocate for victims of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

Tajuan was recognized as one of The Top 20 Women Who Make a Difference in Birmingham, accepted The FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award on behalf of The WellHouse, was recognized as The A-List by B-Metro Magazine and Faces of Birmingham with Style BluePrint Magazine both in January, 2015 and featured as An Everyday Hero in Good Housekeeping, March 2015.
